The recently introduced H.264 Bosch cameras and encoders utilize the latest H.264 Main Profile encoding to deliver the
highest picture quality at the best compression rate. Additionally, these cameras provide an H.264 Baseline Profile+ (BP+)
mode, which is used when streaming IP video to a Divar 700 Series Digital Recorder. Picture quality can be reduced
when using BP+ encoding on moving cameras, due to an internal bit rate limitation.
Issue:
The encoding bit rate for the Baseline Profile Plus (BP+) stream in all Bosch ARM-based BVIP products is limited to a
maximum of 1.2 Mbps, regardless of any other setting in the encoder profile. This default bit rate delivers very good
picture quality with fixed cameras; however, this bit rate limit can result in reduced picture quality during camera
pan/tilt/zoom movement (e.g., AutoDome, cameras mounted to pan/tilt units, etc.).

Work Around/Resolution:
To improve the picture quality during pan/tilt/zoom movement, Bosch has implemented a licensable function to increase
the bandwidth limitation for H.264 BP+ encoded video from 1.2 Mbps up to 2 Mbps. This license key is available FREE
OF CHARGE. By activating this key, the camera will switch to 'Divar mode'. An additional benefit of using such a key is
that the user can not switch to this mode unintentionally.
Important Notes:
•
To allow the bit rate increase, a special Global License Activation Key must be entered via the License page in
the camera/encoder web browser or via Configuration Manager:
02-01.1D.01-E7F59A39-5247CA08-C8FFE9F3-F4D1CEB1-F5DB22B3
•
To limit the bit rate to 1.2 Mbps again, a Global License Deactivation Key can be applied:
02-01.1D.00-DF14DC1D-0FFCFA4C-0FB214D8-6C231CD1-6585AD46
•
These Global License Keys are valid for all applicable products listed above.
Limitations:
•
H.264 BP+ requires CAVLC entropy encoding which is handled by the CPU in the camera/encoder. The required
computational power for CAVLC encoding at 2Mbps does not allow the activation of any additional functions other
than MOTION+.
•
When the Global License Activation Key is activated do not enable:
o JPEG encoding in any way, including JPEG Posting or JPEGs in alarm emails
o iSCSI or SD card recording, neither local nor remote
o FTP export of recordings
o AES encryption
•
When the Global License Activation Key is activated do not allow:
o Access to the second stream (H.264 MP)
o Access to the JPEG stream
o Access to RTSP streams
