This WG aims at forming a joint Nordic pla@orm for producing knowledge and exchanging experiences, regarding the challenges and opportuni/es induced by the current demographic and labour market related changes in the Nordic regions. Current priori9es – Overview of na9onal policies addressing demographic change – NordMap -­‐ webmapping tool for territorial monitoring of demographic trends – From Migrants to Workers: Immigrants’ role in the local labour markets in the Nordic region – Social Innova9on: Nordic ways of addressing the demographic shiT All Nordic countries are facing demographic challenges and difficul9es in provision of welfare services in rural areas -­‐> could SI have poten9al in addressing these challenges? Aim of the project • Study the poten9al of SI in facing the challenges of Nordic welfare system in rural areas • Inves9gate the possibili9es for social innova9on prac9ces that are compa9ble and complementary to the Nordic welfare systems • Iden9fy and disseminate good prac9ce examples of place-­‐
based SI in demographically vulnerable regions and municipali9es across the Nordics Ac/vi/es 2015-­‐2016 • Ac9vity 1. Ac/vi/es 2015-­‐2016 • Ac9vity 2. Policy context & governance structures: Mapping roles of different actors in facilita9ng SI (country-­‐wise), studying the evolu9on of the role of SI in welfare provision (country-­‐wise) (ongoing, interviewing in process What have we already learned?
• That the term SI is often misunderstood and sometimes misused.
• That SI seems more commonly used in Denmark, Finland and
Sweden, less well known in Iceland and Norway.
• That the public sector plays a strong role in all the Nordic
countries, sometimes facilitating SI, but also sometimes creating
or maintaining administrative barriers
