Tools required:
• Scissors
• Flat and Phillips screwdriver
• Electric drill and bits
• Saws for cutting floor and wall openings
Locate the Outside Air Duct Opening
Determine the layout of your installation prior to beginning construction. (Figs. 2 or 3) You may choose the
location for the floor or wall opening after positioning
the stove. Select a location for the floor opening that
does not require weakening structural members.

The air duct must pass through an exterior wall to
an air source outside the house.
Prepare the Stove
Before installing the duct work for this kit, remove the
stove’s bottom heat shield if it is installed. Remove the
outside air connection cut out (Fig. 4) in the shield by
pushing gently on one of the free edges of the cutout
circle. Rotate the disk until it breaks free. Be sure to
wear protective gloves to avoid being cut by the sheet
metal edges.
The bottom heat shield must be reinstalled before attaching the outside air kit duct work to the bottom of the
stove.

3. Locate and cut the opening through the exterior wall.
Make sure you are compliant with local and state
building codes for firebreaks and any other building
requirements. Test fit the 3” diameter air duct to see
that it will pass through the wall system.
4. Attach the exterior sealing plate to the exterior wall
with the screws provided. To provide a tight seal,
place a bead of silicone sealer on the side of the
plate next to the home, and also around the pipe
where it passes through the sealing plate.
5. Attach the rodent screen to the outside of one of the
non-crimped ends of a 3” diameter air duct using the
hardware provided.
6. Bend the tabs outward on the exterior sealing plate
where the duct passes through. Slide the duct, with
the rodent screen attached, through the exterior
sealing plate and secure accordingly through the
holes on the bent tabs.
7. From inside the house, attach the interior trim collar
by sliding the collar over the 3” diameter air duct and
fasten it to the wall.
8. Complete your installation by either using the remaining 3” diameter air duct or 3” diameter flexible
aluminum pipe. Use the two (2) hose clamps included with the kit to attach the ducts together. NOTE: If
you decide to use the 3” diameter air duct, provided
it is long enough, you will have to measure and cut
the duct accordingly.

2. Insert air duct elbow with applied gasketing through
the hole in the bottom heat shield and into the iron
outside air housing which is located under the stove
at the rear. (Fig. 6) Adjust the angle of the duct as
necessary. Mark the location of the screw hole, using the hole in the iron housing as a guide. Using a
power drill, drill a 1/8” (3 mm) hole through the air
duct using the hole in the housing and secure the
duct with one (1) #10 x 1/2” pan head screw.

1. Locate the center of the outside air housing on the
floor and cut a hole for the 3” diameter air duct to
pass through. Make sure you are compliant with
local and state building codes for firebreaks and any
other building requirements. You must cut through
the floor protection that is or will be placed under the
stove as well. Test fit the 3” diameter air duct to see
that it will pass through the floor system.
2. Determine the length and cut the 3” diameter air
duct by leaving enough duct below the floor system
to be able to install the 3” diameter elbow as shown
in Figure 3.
3. Insert the 3” duct through the hole in the floor so
the non-crimped end is toward the stove (above the
floor). From the stove side of the floor system, slide
the interior trim collar over the 3” diameter air duct.
Using the #10 x 1/2” screws provided, secure the
interior trim collar to the finished floor.
4. Apply approximately 11¹⁄₂” (292 mm) of gasketing
around the 3” (76 mm) diameter air duct along the
perimeter of the non-crimped edge. (Fig. 7)

aligned with the outside air connection collar and
heat shield pass-through hole. Insert the 3” diameter
air duct with applied gasketing through the bottom
heat shield hole and intoKT496
the iron outside air housing.

6. Attach the 3” diameter elbow to the bottom of the 3”
diameter air duct connected to the stove using one
(1) of the hose clamps provided with the kit.
7. Locate and cut a hole opening on the exterior wall.
Make sure you are compliant with local and state
building codes for firebreaks and any other building
requirements. Test fit the 3” diameter air duct to see
that it will pass through the wall system.
8. Attach the exterior sealing plate to the exterior of the
home with the screws provided. To provide a tight
seal, place beads of silicone sealer on the surface
of the plate against the home and around the pipe
where it passes through the sealing plate.
9. Attach the rodent screen to the outside of the noncrimped end of the 3” diameter air duct using the
hardware provided.
10. Bend the tabs outward on the exterior sealing plate
where the duct passes through. Slide the duct, with
the rodent screen attached, through the exterior seal
plate and secure accordingly through the holes on
the bent tabs.
11. Complete your installation by using the 3” diameter
flexible aluminum pipe to connect the end of the
3” diameter elbow to the end of the 3” diameter air
duct. Use the two (2) hose clamps included with the
kit to attach the ducts together.
